Once, I started a new game in Morrowind as an Argonian merchant.

I travelled from town to town, buying wares on the cheap and selling them high, used a little alchemy to boost the profits on raw ingredients too and picked plants as I travelled.

And even though there was no mechanical reason, I didn't invest any time or skills in combat, if a Nixx hound attacked me on the road all I would do is run like hell.

So I was wondering if anyone else has done anything like this? Throw caution to the wind and play games wrong.

I would wear some leather and fur armors, got a small shack mod that was located deep in the woods, would hunt for a couple days, and then eventually go back to town to sell all of my furs and meats.
After that I would go to the inn, have a few bottles of mead, chitchat with the locals and head back home.

When I finished GTA IV I'd live a normal life. I hung out with friends, finally go bowling with Roman (yes I always let him live), and did normal shit. Usually stayed in the penthouse in Algonquin.

But at night.... I'd dawn my costume. I'd put on the Albanian jacket with the eagle on the back, some black jeans, the white tennis shoes, and the ski mask. Then I would spawn a FIB Buffalo, and I would open up a the criminal database.

I tracked down and killed every major criminal in Liberty city. I became the hero that LC deserved, and cleaned the mean streets. I was the nameless vigilante keeping the civilians safe.

What I neglected to mention is that I'm also a huge superhero nerd, so I took my little story even further.

I liked to imagine the Niko didn't actually use guns (because rocket launchers and M4s don't fit in pockets). I'd pretend that instead he'd have superpowers. I've actually been doing this since Vice City.

The guns are all basically deviations of telekinesis. Extremely precise and accurate, and he can send a short telekinetic wave through someone's skull. The shotgun is a powerful force-wave kind of thing, whereas the automatic weapons are more of a long-distance stream.

The sniper rifle combined the telekinesis with a "telescopic vision" ability.

The molotov cocktails were pyrokinesis, and the grenades were sort of a controlled explosion ability. The rocket launcher was an extension of the pyrokinesis that I imagined as sort of a plasma blast.

The knife was similar to Wolverine's claws, but it was just a single blade that extended over the hand. The baseball bat was sort of turning your fists into steel and beating the shit out of people.

Then I'd go further into the story and create my own little past for Niko. Things like his experience in the war actually being a clash of superhumans, and Niko lost his powers. However, he begins to gain them back in Liberty City because he can absorb powers from other people. I'd imagine which characters in the game would have which powers, it was fun as hell.

Then to complement the whole thing I would sometimes use cheats for regeneration and such.

There's more to it, but I feel like I've typed a lot already. I fully plan on doing this in GTA V as well, it makes the games so much more fun for me.

As much as you guys seem to be having fun,I still think the developer should try to enforce the plot on players, otherwise, there's no urgency to the plot, no real strength behind the story. If you can spend eons trading, counting beans and collecting cheese and otherwise faffing about- what's the purpose of having a story?Might as well just make a game called "Medieval Fantasy Lifestyle Adventure Game".

If players deviate from assuming the call to heroism, the player should be punished. Not directly, but in a way that hurts their playing style, so they assume the responsability they've long denied. For example, in Fallout 1, if you fucked around too much, the Necropolis got invaded by supermutants, making your quest to regain the waterchip much harder and difficult, and you lost merchants/story quests because...Necropolis is gone.If you took too long, the game ended, because the Supermutants took over your vault, game over.

I know you guys have fun doing these things, but its a sign of bad design when players would rather play "Trader John's Adventures", rather than go and defeat the Dark Lord, save the world, and beat back the hordes of evil...IN THE SAME GAME.

I do the same. In GTA 3, the mission where you help some mafiosos steal a bank I would always, always, steal a Cab for the mission. Why?

Because that was the most common car in the game. The police would be stumped trying to find a cab in the middle of cabs. Also, by respecting the rules they would never get my plate before the actual crime had been comitted.

In UFO: Afterlight I have in my mind the story of Diego, veteran of 140 mission and killer of 278 aliens. H'es the last survivor of the first Alpha squad.

Except in morrowind the DARK OVERLORD isn't exactly banging down the door to rape and kill everyone. He is trying to slowly subvert the population over time. It makes sense that you would have time to dick around while he is carefully and slowly gaining the upperhand.

I've roleplayed as a faggot wizard who could only cast dick spells and do alchemy and enchanting, but I'd only make poisons and stuff that would have one good effect and ten bad effects, then sell them to npc's in hopes that some unlucky prick would wear it and end up dying.

I'd leave my gear/potions at the end of every dungeon I cleared by going through rediculous lengths to keep all of the bad guys alive.

By the time I got bored, half of morrowinds rumoured treasure troves and artifacts were all replaced with shitty ass faggot gear. My best work was a full set of daedric that I'd completely ruined with shit like constant datigue damage on self, burden, weakness to magicka 500%, blindness on self 300% etc.

Hey, somebody has to be the villain.

I recently started replaying Dark Souls, and decided that I was a magician with flimsy Jell-O muscles. So I don't use any weapons. It's not really that difficult, given the strength of spells in Dark Souls, but when I run out it becomes a matter of running for my life or, if need be, whacking things with my Catalyst to do tiny amounts of damage. Another, unrelated change is that whenever I find humanity I spend it and become human, so I never hoard humanity for when I need it, but rather act like humanity is something forces me to become human at the next bonfire. Leads to a lot more invasions, instead of only spending it when you want to summon phantoms for help.

I've made tons of characters on Morrowind, but never finished it.

My favorite character was a Dunmer Knight.
I would steal EVERY PILLOW that I saw, I didn't even bothered to sneak. I also did this with brooms.

I would store all the pillows inside a shack on Seyda Neen, that's located crossing the bridge and it's owned by a Dark Elf female which I always kill.

Also, I was a vampire and could never cure myself from vampirism because of a bug

I had a bounty of over 35K gold. Just for being a vampire killing people in order to steal their pillows and brooms.

i just picked up on oblivian again. went to a cave w/ vampires and hurp durp Porphyric Hemophilia.

I dont normally use fast travel, i like to explore the roads and clear out caves and ruins i find along the way, so instead of getting the cure quickly i walked my way back to the imperial city, stole a horse, and rode to skingrad from there, when it turned night i would duck into a cave or fort and clear it out, then wait/sleep tell nightfall. it took me three days irl to get the cure, the journy was long and hard, especially sense i always play with the dificulty slider set to max.

it really made me feel like i accomplished an epic task, something i hadn't felt from a game in a very long time

Because there's a PLOT going on.What's the use of playing an immersive game if the plot doesnt continue? The DARK LORD/HORDE is still there, the rebel alliance is still fighting, and the bad guys shouldnt wait until you decide to join in!

I think the game should continue, the plot go on, even if you've decided to not heed the call of heroism!

Wouldnt it be cool if you see the world slowly break down, as the bad guys slowly take over the world/burn down everything/destroy towns, just because the CHOSEN ONE (you) decided not to heed the call?

Heck, imagine how awesome it would be if like 100 hours in, the game ends, as a movie plays of the BBEG/Dark Lord getting the magical macguffin and taking over the world!

>>138594547
If the story had continued, then slowly, what should had happened is the cultists should be spreading slowly,as you continue playing, ignoring the plot in favor of your farmer john/trader bob shenanigans....then,one day, you go in to a town, and the cultists have taken over, and they go all like "Join Us", and then you have to Join them, (Game Over) or die fighting (Game Over), or do an amazing escape.

It's what should happen.

You're the chosen one.
And you rejected the call.

The world should suffer.

I read either a game informer preview or review before playing Morrowind, and it basically said you could do fucking anything you can imagine in the game. It went on to say you could write your name with forks in the town square. I imagined carving carving shit into tables in walls with forks. First thing I did when I got the game was find a fork and got pissed when I couldn't figure out how to equip it.

There was was a caption on a picture of a Dremora with a Daedric sword that said something along the lines of "See a guy with a sword and armor you want? You can kill him and take it." I finally encounter a Dremora and I think "Fuck yes. all that shit is mine." But I'm still at a low level and can't kill it easily. So I spend a long fucking time trying to lure it out and kill it. I died a shit load of times. And then finally after all the work, it dies and leaves a fucking pile of ash.

I'm a gta:sa addict, after finishing the story, i was just hanging around, buying soda from the vending machine, getting a haircut or a new tattoo,
riding my bike in the desert while listening to K-DST,
the most memorable moment was certainly when i took the hydra from the aeroport in the desert, when i got in the cockpit, the radio played Freebird.
I flew in the sky like a bird, a freebird,
No more gang wars, no regrets about the past
i was flying for 5 good minute the time the music stop, it was pure happiness.
if that was a taste of freedom, i want to be free forever.

It is ludicrously complicated. I enjoy it, but then I like that kind of thing. You can download it here:
http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/

Read the help. Seriously, read the help.

Then read a tutorial and look things up as you go along on the wiki: http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Main_Page

I'd recommend avoiding graphical tilesets and the lazy noob packs. If you're going to play, play properly.

But subsequent runs have been NCR. My character is an NCR agent masquerading as a courier for the purposes of advancing NCR aims in the Mojave with plausible deniability, and possibly assassinating Mr House.

I recently made a character with gimped everything but Strength and Luck which were maxed.

Rushed my way to Vegas, wanting no trouble with nobody. If I felt like my life was threatened, I pulled out my boxing gloves and beat the living shit out of whatever is trying to kill me.

Once in Freeside, I have just a few amount of credits. So I go in the Wrangler, start making money at the Blackjack table, quickly rising to 2000 credits to pass the credit check into the Strip. Once there I bought myself some swag clothes, went into Gamorrah and started making cash until the gangsters there hated me.

I leave the casino loaded, get myself a small gun and ammo and step into the Lucky 38 to make business.

Because every game is dumbed down. In Morrowind, you actually have to read to know where you have to go. There isn't a giant compass showing you where do you have to go. You can break the game with alchemy/enchanting.
All faction/guild quests are intricate, long and interesting.
The only problem is the massive number of cliff racers.

Love Morrowind.

After I had played it for far too long I decided to become a serial killer. In my mind I imagined the horror of local authorities as they began to notice more and more NPC's not following their typical routes. The dread they must have felt knowing that I had finally come to their little town.

It started simple, one killing in Balmora. I needed a home to store my loot but after I had finished the deed I began to think, "What if?" What if I staged the scene what would that do to the game? I stripped my victim naked and removed every item in their house that wasn't bolted down. Next I went out and started collecting things, things to put around the crime scene.

My first victim was surrounded by books. Tons and tons of them, I built him a little book house for his naked corpse and then I spelled out words on the floor with discarded swords. The words simply read...

"Two more tomorrow".

It's been awfully quiet in Balmora lately, so many dead. So many book houses.

This is going to sound horrible, but keep in mind I was a bored middle-class white teen.

After I beat Vice City, I would spend at least a half hour every day slaughtering people in Little Haiti.

I would store tanks in my garage and steal Hunters just to drive down there and literally kill everyone I saw.

I caused countless millions in damage and hundreds of deaths.

I felt as if I was cleansing the world.

Male Imperial Warrior Poet here.
Once I got to level 50, I used the console to get every perk in the light armor, one-handed, smithing, enchanting, alchemy, conjuration, destruction, illusion and alteration trees and upped them all to 100.

I wear only clothing and an enchanted Blades Sword, I'm married to Senna (Wearing tavern clothes), I have Njada Stonearm as a companion, and I specialize in manipulating enemies during battle and summoning zombies or thralls to do the dirty work.

I killed Paarthurnax out of precaution, and recruited every possible member to the Blades.
I sided with the Legion, and I have a house in Markarth.

The only quests I completed were the main one, the Legion, the Companions, the College of Winterhold, and the Bards College.
I am set for life.
I spend most of my days hunting game, trading, exploring, and enchanting new things.

I am a man who has fullfilled his life.

In skyrim I would use a custom spell that near completely froze time but left me at normal speed. I would just wander around with time slowly crawling, observing battles, or the moving trees. If an innocent was in danger I would place baskets in the path of incoming arrows or sword swings and in turn fire 50 or so arrows at the attackers. One of the characters I loved to play on Morrowind was a Khajiit that would run around Balmora looting crates, saving to get the bonemold armor (shit looks so good).
Because I couldn't afford the complete set, I used the chitin gloves, boots and shoulders. After that, I would usually run around the wilderness and getting attacked by the dark brotherhood guy from the Tribunal expansion

I was about 11 and Morrowind had just been released and I had no idea of what I was doing, but I had a hell of a time.

>I load up on summoning spells

>Act like a normal citizen during the day
>At night I stalk the countryside, looking for victims for my experiments
>I rarely venture into towns during the night, I don't want my secrets getting out
>Collect human flesh, hearts, bones, skulls, all for my cave
>Eventually during my travels I encountered a vampire; rather than get my new disease cured I embraced it as an opportunity
>Now I would have an eternity to practice my arts in the dark corners of Morrowind
>Eventually I joined the Telvanni; they were rather accepting of my curse, and grew to value my skill
>Little do they know I use them to my own ends, harvesting rival Telvanni members for my experiments, protected by the House's own rules.

I can see the fear in the guards eyes. I know they know, but they cannot do a thing to a ranking member of the House.

It's almost done. Should be available in the next week or so actually. We haven't updated about it to make it a surprise for the summer...sort of give people something nice to do until the fall. Here's the link so you can check out the summarized changelog.

I did, only thing that is bothering me are the outdated character models and stuff

sometimes the look quite "old" compared to all the retexturing and amazing water and lighting shadow effects.

any idea what to do about this?

OP, Mount and Blade lets you play as a trader pretty nicely. It's difficult to get started unless you have a mod like Floris that offers financing options, but it's cool to take out a loan, buy some goods and hire some mercenaries for caravan guards, and go get some dosh until you advance time for an instant too long and in the blink of an eye you're surrounded by a 280 man bandit blob with no option to retreat

I've tried Oblivion again, with mods. Gotta say, it's a great game. I've been trying to shoot for a more Morrowind-style level scaling system with a world which is more handcrafted and more populated.

I've gotten expansion mods for every city, some extra farms and villages for increased immersion, Dragon Captions Elder Council and Sutch, and Unique Landscapes. Crowded Roads and Crowded Cities have also been downloaded. I use Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul to stop the level scaling and make treasure hunting actually exciting.

Are there any mods with a coolness factor that you would recommend to me, /v/? Anything to further improve the Imperial City? I know this isn't Morrowind we're talking about here, but how can Oblivion be best improved?
