Just finished this amazing game.

Favorite chapter, /v/? Did you prefer the original to it?

My favorite chapter is the Glitzville chapter. It was very fun, with great characters and an interesting backstory/mystery.

Every chapter was brilliant except for the Puni crap. That chapter brings the game down for me.

Still love it though.

However, the first Paper Mario had NO bad chapters, which makes it better in my opinion.

At least in PM 2, every chapter has you doing something completely different.
Also, battle system, graphics, story, dialogue are all superior too...

Hard not to say Glitz Pitz.

The train and Doopliss were other personal highlights.

I played TTYD first, which is probably the reason I prefer it to 64 overall, which is still great. The second recycles a lot of 64's elements but it also improves on them in subtle but effective ways.

The first Paper Mario game was too easy. You can beat it with the minimum HP/FP and only 3 BP used, provided you're a badass when it comes to timing. That being said, it was still a fucking great game.

I just finished it up recently as well. Funny how much I loved Paper Mario 1, yet I waited all this time to play the sequel.

Glitzville greatest chapter bar-non. After that the game became way too easy if you massed BP (like I did) and had Quick swap and P-Ups available and equiped.

Literally everything about TTYD (minus Puni tree) was stellar. Can't even say it any simpler than that. You had minigames, you had secret bosses, you had enemies that could slap your shit even at a high level, challenges (no badges, 5hp, using that magic dude to change your stats), quirky cast, hilarious dialogue, a few serious or sad stories (bobbery, TEC), and amazing battles.

this game is simplistic, yet really in depth. you had to know your shit to win, and had to be even better to fight things like Amazee Dayzees that more often than not DON'T run away in the 100 trials.

nothing is hard until you meet enemies that can hit for 6+ multiple times, which happens quickly after the SMORG. hell even smorg can be hard if you can't block (which can kinda be tough for that fight, since the timing isn't exactly in tune for when you get hit on screen)

once you get to the moon and there are things that hit for 10, then you'll see the difficulty ramp back up

I used Goombella all the time, mainly because I was obsessed with tattling on everybody. Otherwise I used Bobbery and Vivian a lot.

I hated Koops, never used him. He was rarely useful, especially after you start getting better partners.

Yeah, it's really annoying. You gotta run back to Hooktail's Castle and blow away the center of the room you fought him in to get one of those completely useless sound effect badges.
That reminds me, there was one thing I DIDN'T like about this game, and it was in the first and the second one. They sent you running back to the stages you already visited in every chapter trying to find a person or something. Don't remember why in the first one but the second one you had to find that general or something.

It's easy enough if you find the pipes underground, but otherwise it's a real PITA...

I went down once to get the super sack or whatever that lets you carry 2x as many items.
When I went down the second time, I actually got it on the first try. I was brought down to using Goombella, which is honestly a very useful character because she saved 7 BP vs. using that 'Peekaboo' badge. I never used her to fight after I get Koops though, to be real honest.

Danger Mario for example is a setup where have Mario constantly in "Danger" status (nearly dead) and use badges that power him up considerably while in such status. It breaks the game.

IIRC the pianta parlor (or whatever it was called) sells danger badges that boost attack by a shitton if your health is really low. So you can have Yoshi putting out 30+ of damage per attack with that multiple attack thing, I forget its name. Buy a whole bunch and then, right before the last floor (or just swap the 1 hp partner out until the boss), get your partner killed (or lower Mario to 1hp if you're using him, although that's obviously harder to do since you risk dying) and then pick up one heart from the end of battle rewards to revive him. Go down to bonetail and crush the shit out of him.

I never knew of these things. I always knew about the danger badges but I never considered them as a strategy. I never equipped them, because I was too focused on getting all my timing for blocking and attacking proper. Plus, the game wasn't so fun if you just blew through it.

Case in point: Smorg. That boss was way too easy, even with this ridiculous resonator shaped attack that would deal like 10 damage.

I'd imagine that they'd have to make the reward cosmetic or some whole new party member for it to be worthwhile. After all, by beating Bonetail, you've beaten a boss that's easily twice as hard as the real final boss. There isn't going to be much to use even the most absurdly powerful badge on.

Alternatively, beating Bonetail could have unlocked a playable Luigi's Adventure. I don't know about you, but I sure as hell just popped a boner.

This link still works, I used it last week. I'm not sure how the guy did it, but he managed to somehow record the raw music as if it was on a CD instead of using that obscure "pause to listen" method.

I was out walking yesterday while listening to the Pirate's Grotto theme. I've never heard it without sound effects but it was godly.

All the Paper Mario games have a great narrative, (SPM being the best) which is why they are better than a lot of other games in the Mario Franchise.

As far as TTYD goes, I liked the Twilighttown Chapter the best.

I remember a bunch of years back while playing the game, I was thinking "damn, this music is baller as fuck" and decided to go look for downloads. Wasn't on youtube. Google barely brought up anything. I had to settle for this galbadia hotel site (I think it was that one?) that had some pretty shitty midi adaptations of the music; they sounded more like remixes than the actual songs. It's funny how everything seems so easy to get now.
>> Anonymous 03/26/12(Mon)22:08 No.133979252
I loved the X-Naut Fortress stage. that music was a real boost. everything sorta took a leap up, the enemies were 'organized' as oppose to the random encounters on the moon

I do remember Galabadia Hotel. I used that in addition to KH Insider.

KH got shut down because the companies found out and didn't like their music being available for download, despite not putting out a soundtrack CD or anything.

Galabadia had hosting issues.

They both had pretty crappy music though. Most of the songs you could tell were recorded in the middle of the game because you could hear things in the background and I really hated that.

who knows what the fuck else, speculate

shy guy partner here, and a couple enemies from us smb2 would be cool, tryclyde and that mouse who threw bombs (mowser?) could be cool enemies to face

and the use of 3d would probably be a huge part of the new game, what do you think they'll do with it?
